Date: Jan 21, 2012
Time: TBA
Location:TBA
Our next club meeting will be an AGM.The main topic on our agenda will be how we will mothball the club so that some of the assets can be sold to offset liabilities and how the remainder will be stored so that if and when the members decide to revive the club, the remaining assets will be in a usable form for that time. All members that wish to be part of this conversation should plan to attend. The agenda will be sent out in the next few weeks to all 2010 and 2011 paid members. Please plan to attend. Any concerns can be forwarded to www.westwoodkarting.org where the executive can receive your input.
*** PLEASE RETURN PERPETUAL TROPHIES **** - Posted OCT 12, 2011
At this time also we are asking for all 2010 perpetual trophy winners to plan to return their trophy for proper storage. Email Helmut hbuhl@westwoodkarting.org and he will plan a way to get the trophy to us. Thank you.
*** UPDATE FROM PRESIDENT (ROAD DARCE CANCELLED) **** - Posted September 29th, 2011
With the really poor turnout for the GMR Westwood Gold Cup last weekend, we are forced to look more seriously at the possible poor turnout for our road race, especially with poor weather. Stan and Myself, have come to the conclusion that it is prudent for the club to cancel the road race for 2011 and to announce it soon enough for everyone to adjust their year end plans. If you were a racer that was planning on coming, we thank you and hope that we will see you racing your kart at the road race track in Mission in the future.
On a different note, the next club meeting is curcial for any club member that would like a say in what will happen with the club and its assests as we finish this year and move into the next. It is time to have these discussions and anyone that cares about the future of this club needs to attend this and possibly the next few meetings.
Thanks Helmut Buhl, President

*** Greetings to all current, past, and life members of Westwood Karting Association **** - Posted June 7, 2011
You are all invited! You may or may not be aware that this is the 50th year since Westwood Karting officially started as a club. Membership within the club has seen ebbs and flows over those years. Currently the club is at one of those lows. None the less, on Saturday, June 18 @ Mission Raceway Park, we are celebrating the history of this great club. We are inviting members to dust off those karts and tune them up to enter our one day event. We have a really good track at Mission that should spark your interest. Or just show up for our free spectator viewing and reminisce with old friends. The primary purpose of this day is for fun, meeting some of the old members, and maybe reconnecting with a past that gave us all a lot to be proud of. Race groups will be organized in the morning around 9. BBQ to finish the day at around 5. Media has told us that they will be there. There may presentations at lunch. Trophies at the BBQ. We will have hot dogs available for guests that do not want to bring anything.
*** WESTWOOD STORY TO APPEAR ON SHAW's THE EXPRESS **** - Posted june 7, 2011
A Westwood story will air on a show called THE EXPRESS which which airs at 3 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm, and 10 pm on this Tuesday on ShawTV Channel 4, there will be a 3 minute story about the Westwood Karting Assoc during a half hour special on Coquitlam!
If you missed the episode check it out on the EXPRESS YouTube Channel the story starts at the 2 min 50 sec mark.
*** FOR SPECTATORS AND FANS **** - Posted May 24, 2011
We will be in the Fort Langley May Day Parade. Join us in celebrating our history of being the oldest kart racing club in British Columbia and almost the oldest in North America. Welcome to our 50th year of racing as the Westwood Karting Association runs their one day race weekend and following BBQ on June 18. We are making special arrangements at the track for spectators to have a good view of the racing without having to pay for a pit pass for the Jun 18 Race Day at Mission Raceway Park. Head into the main entrance, letting the gate know that you are heading for the gokart side of the track, turn left, follow the road to the back side of the track nearer to the river. As you pass the start of the drag-strip and the tower you will see the pits for the kart race. Please join us in celebrating our history of racing in the lower mainland. There may be opportunities for spectator 'try a kart' sessions during our lunch depending on time available.
*** IMPORTANT PLEASE READ *** JUNE 18 RACE CHANGES AND CLUB's 50th - Posted May 10, 2011
Attention all present and past members and racers. Your Executive has modified the June 18 race weekend as follows: To celebrate our 50th year as a club, it will be a one day event on the Saturday. We are looking for a title sponsor to cover the cost of the track rental and the first aid. When that occurs, we are willing to offer a reduced rate for racing on that day only. We want to get all those dusty karts, that all our past members still have, out on this day. This could be the last Westwood date for some time to come. Historically this is not new, but your Executive has to take the participation, or lack of it, of its members and racers as a sign that you do not want the club to run races at this time. We will decide classes based on turn out on that morning. We figure we should be racing by ten o'clock and done by five or sooner. A BBQ to follow, possibly at the track or at a members home in Langley. The goal is to have fun and enjoy each others company and reminisce about our history. And historically our BBQs seem to be a lot of fun. We want members to bring their own steaks and drinks at this time. More information to follow at this site.
Additional news. Westwood will be in the May Day parade at Fort Langley this May 23rd on Monday. email us for details hbuhl@westwoodkarting.org .

IAME CLASS TIRE UPDATE - Posted April 12, 2011
The IAME classes will allow MG yellow as well as Bridgestone tires
NEWS ON THE TRITRACK SERIES - Posted April 8, 2011
Please note that all Tritrack series races are double headers with entry fees of $130 or $65 per race. That again means limited practice and that it is important that your kart is prepared before you arrive at the track. Transponders must be charged before you arrive and need to be on the kart during the morning warm up. Trophies for Sunday only handed out on Sunday. To save time order will be by pea pick, that means no qualifying, with race order reversed on heat 2 and results determining final start order. Shorter heats of equal lenght to allow for longer finals. Tires are as per WestCoast with IAME classes:Bridgestone, however that may change to be more inclusive and to make it easier for more racers to use the tires they have for the other classes. Keep looking for updates on tires.

Important Announcements - Posted March 29, 2011
Our Schedule is complete and as listed on our website
On the membership form, rather than changing the form, realize that the fee includes the $100 equipment fee. The fee will be used to pay towards the secondary paving shortly after the initial track was finished, and eventually the rest of our barriers. Depending on numbers of racers, we expect the paving portion will be completely paid in a maximum of three years.
We are happy to announce that our first race will be set up by hired workers and club supervisors and that they will be on track starting at 6:30am Saturday morning of April 16. The early portion of Saturday mornings practice will also be flagged by these same workers. This should give everyone a chance to get their karts on track and running before they volunteer for the rest of the weekend of flagging. This may continue for the rest of the year. So be on time because the track will be ready. Our registration will be open at 7:30 am and run to our lunch on Saturday and 9:30am on Sunday. Drivers meeting will be at 8:30am, and practice will start at 9:00am sharp. For racers showing up early on Friday, use the north parking lot for temporary parking because Friday afternoon, our track is used for the pits for the evening drags. We advise you have your transponder charged and attached to your kart on Saturday to avoid time costly delays on Sunday.
Please take advantage of our website and fill in the membership form and print out a completed copy. Bring this completed copy with you on April 16. The racers with this form will get served ahead of those that will still have to fill it out. Please take advantage of our telephone membership payment option. You will be contacted by phone. Your club needs these funds for the start up costs at the beginning of the year.
Since we will be ready to run early on Saturdays, we suggest that you bring your kart to the track fully prepared. This is a shift from the way Saturdays were run for the last two years. It is also advised that you come to the track with some basic spare parts on hand, because there may not be a fully loaded parts wagon on site for each weekend. One can visit or make arrangements with Checkered Flag Racing or Italian Motors, or your own favourite parts supplier to bring your parts to the track by calling early in the week prior to the race weekend. Check our website for contact numbers.
The Tri-Track Series is a reality with only a few final details to be ironed out. The April 9 WestCoast club meeting is required for that club to officially recognize the series. Refer to The WestCoast Regulations for tire Specs. The dates are on our race schedule and include the three lower mainland tacks, Mission, Greg Moore Raceway, and Sumas International Motorsports Academy.
